What to expect
Our time together will be a supportive process to set priorities, establish goals, and create individualized treatment plans which will help you foster new eating habits.
Our first session together will be approximately 90 minutes long. Through conversation and assessments, we’ll get to know each other, understand your past medical history, food/diet history, and your current food habits. From here, we’ll develop a plan that is unique to you to help you reach your short- and long-term health and nutrition goals.
During our following 60-minute sessions, we’ll discuss how your plan is working, your successes, and any obstacles you’ve encountered. Sustainable changes take time. If something isn’t working for you, we’ll reassess and try a different approach.
We’ll frequently examine your goals and the plan we created - as you grow and change, your individualized treatment must change as well.

FAQ
Which payment options are available for your services?
Berman Nutrition Services accepts Medicare, Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island, major commercial insurances, and private payment.
Use the
contact form to reach out and check your coverage.
Do I need a primary doctor's referral for your services? How can I be sure my insurance covers your services?
I encourage all new clients to call and confirm that Medical Nutrition Therapy is covered under your particular insurance plan. When you call the members’ service number on the back of your insurance card, consider asking the following questions of your insurance: Does my plan cover outpatient medical nutrition therapy? How many visits are covered? Do I need a referral from a physician? Do I need to meet my deductible, and if so, how much is it? What will my copay be for my visit?
What's the difference between a registered dietitian and a nutritionist?
A dietitian is a nutritionist, but a nutritionist is not always a dietitian. To become a nutritionist you can simply just call yourself one, or take a six-week course online, whereas RDs are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), complete over 1,200 hours of supervised practice to earn certification, maintain their certification through continuous education, and adhere to a strict code of ethics.
Do you take in-person and virtual appointments?
Yes! Appointments can be virtual, or ask about in-person availability and location when scheduling.
Are you a Dietetic Preceptor for Renal or Private Practice?
Yes! I accept Dietetic Interns to work with me at my dialysis units and in my private practice. Reach out using the
contact form and we’ll set up some time to chat.
