How can working with Berman Nutrition Services help you reach your goals?

Slow and prevent some medical conditions through nutrition therapy
Decrease or possibly eliminate the need for some medications through diet changes
Understand why and how to make changes to help you be successful in controlling your health
Learn to eat better for your health, whether adding in new foods or completely changing your diet

What to expect

Our time together will be a supportive process to set priorities, establish goals, and create individualized treatment plans which will help you foster new eating habits.

Our first session together will be approximately 90 minutes long. Through conversation and assessments, we’ll get to know each other, understand your past medical history, food/diet history, and your current food habits.  From here, we’ll develop a plan that is unique to you to help you reach your short- and long-term health and nutrition goals.

During our following 60-minute sessions, we’ll discuss how your plan is working, your successes, and any obstacles you’ve encountered. Sustainable changes take time. If something isn’t working for you, we’ll reassess and try a different approach.

We’ll frequently examine your goals and the plan we created - as you grow and change, your individualized treatment must change as well.

Meet Julia

Registered Dietitian

Hello! My name is Julia E. Berman-Pare, and I am a Registered Dietitian and owner of Berman Nutrition Services, LLC.

After working in a dialysis unit for five years, I knew I wanted to help people with kidney disease stay out of the dialysis unit for as long as possible. I had read some of the research around plant-based diets and slowing the progression of CKD, but I needed to read more, learn more, to help my clients start to take back some of the control when it comes to CKD.

I knew that for many, kidney disease diets are hard and confusing. The information found online can be contradictory and outdated. So I will continue to read the research as it comes out so you don't have to. And I am ready to help you learn how to make the right food choices for you.

I believe that everyone deserves to improve their relationship with food, whether to address a specific medical condition like kidney disease or just live a better life.

Food is comfort. Food is personal. Food is part of who we are. So it can be difficult to make changes.

Even a change that some would consider small or easy. But for you, it may be hard. I understand that struggle. I have fought that struggle with food. Let me help you make healthy changes that are comfortable for you and can help you be successful in reaching your goals.

In addition to providing Medical Nutrition Therapy, I am also a Holistic Cannabis Practitioner. A few years ago, I was diagnosed with chronic back muscle spasms, and with the spasms has come chronic pain. My journey to the diagnosis brought me to see multiple professionals including my Primary Care Physician, two different types of specialists, three physical therapists, and two pain clinics over the course of 16 months. I began taking my prescribed medications, but that didn't always work. I still had (and have) really bad pain days.

That's when I started to learn about the role that CBD and cannabis can play in pain management and overall wellness. Cannabis can provide pain relief and is a natural, safe alternative to taking over-the-counter or prescribed pain relievers. Now, chronic pain doesn’t win any more, and any bad days quickly turn to better days.

Thank you for learning more about my story, and I look forward to working together soon!

FAQ

Which payment options are available for your services?

Berman Nutrition Services accepts Medicare, Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island, major commercial insurances, and private payment. Use the contact form to reach out and check your coverage.

Do I need a primary doctor's referral for your services? How can I be sure my insurance covers your services?

I encourage all new clients to call and confirm that Medical Nutrition Therapy is covered under your particular insurance plan. When you call the members’ service number on the back of your insurance card, consider asking the following questions of your insurance: Does my plan cover outpatient medical nutrition therapy? How many visits are covered? Do I need a referral from a physician? Do I need to meet my deductible, and if so, how much is it? What will my copay be for my visit?

What's the difference between a registered dietitian and a nutritionist?

A dietitian is a nutritionist, but a nutritionist is not always a dietitian. To become a nutritionist you can simply just call yourself one, or take a six-week course online, whereas RDs are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), complete over 1,200 hours of supervised practice to earn certification, maintain their certification through continuous education, and adhere to a strict code of ethics. Click here to learn more about the standards for accreditation.

Do you take in-person and virtual appointments?

Yes! Appointments can be virtual, or ask about in-person availability and location when scheduling.

Are you a Dietetic Preceptor for Renal or Private Practice?

Yes! I accept Dietetic Interns to work with me at my dialysis units and in my private practice. Reach out using the contact form and we’ll set up some time to chat.

Let's work together.
